We held the General Assembly meeting of our Association that was postponed due to the resolutions taken by our government within the scope of the coronavirus measures, in compliance with the rules on the pandemic, in June. We came together with our members on the occasion of our General Assembly, over a long break, with the opportunity to evaluate our activities in 2020, economic developments, and the agenda of our sector. Following our General Assembly, I was elected as a President once again. I extend my thanks to all our members who have shown this countenance. Together with our new Board of Directors, we will continue to undersign beneficial works for our Association and our sector and to represent our Association and our sector in the best way, domestically and abroad.
We continue our activities in the field of sustainability at full throttle also in 2021. Medcem Cement's Silifke Cement Plant has been certificated within the scope of the "Certification System for Responsible Use of Resources" of the Switzerland-based Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC), in which we act as a member and Regional System Operator. Upon the inspections conducted by KGS Economic Enterprise (KGS), which is the Certification Institution of CSC, Medcem Cement's Silifke Cement Plant became entitled to receive a "Bronze" certificate from CSC.
Another important development in terms of sustainability was experienced in June. Version 2.1 of the CSC Certification System of the Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) that entered into force as of 1 January 2021 was also recognized by the BREEAM green building rating system. By preferring CSC Certified concrete in construction projects, it is possible to continue to earn extra points from BREEAM. In 2020, BREEAM recognized the previous version of the CSC Certification System and the platinum-level CSC Certification at the 7th level which is the highest one. CSC has also been recognized by LEED, the sustainable green building rating system of the US Green Building Council, and by the Austrian Green Building Council (ÖGNI). We continue our webinars nonstop. We organized a webinar on "New Developments in Concrete Technology" together with Sakarya University in May. In the webinar where we provided information regarding our Association and our endeavors, we conveyed the latest developments in concrete and concrete technology. Also in May, we organized a webinar on “Admixture Solutions for High Performance Concretes” together with Admixture Producers’ Association (APA). In our webinar where we hosted the representatives of the APA Technical Committee, we informed the audience about the structure and activities of THBB.
